Launch of Little Police Partners (LPP)
On 26 March 2016, Lyonpo Mingbo Dukpa, the Minister of Education launched yet another community based program called the Little Police Partners initiated by the Royal Bhutan Police at Kuensel Phodrang Primary School in Thimphu. The program was attended by officials from UNICEF, SAVE the Children, NCWC, faculty and students of Kuensel Phodrang Primary School and officers of Royal Bhutan Police. The program including a publication of a ‘Little Police Partners Guidebook’ that contains tips for personal safety, security and protection of every child from threats and hazards confronting their daily life was funded by the UNICEF.

The Little Police Partners Program was launched to celebrate the Birth of His Royal Highness, the Gyalsey who has brought good fortune and virtuousness to the lives of Bhutanese people, promising the divine succession of the Wangchuck Dynasty with the theme to promote child friendly policing initiatives among the Primary School Children in Thimphu and later in Other Dzongkhags.

The Little Police Partners is a pro-active policing program and a child friendly policing approach that fosters close collaboration with the school communities to enable children to develop skills and enhance their ability to make positive life choices at an early stage of childhood. The Little Police Partners aims to foster positive relationships between the police and the children; to let children learn the basics of safety measures; to equip young children with necessary skills to avoid dangerous situations; to inculcate importance of the crime prevention amongst children; to create a positive understanding of the police among the young children; to build trust and confidence towards the police; and to prevent children from coming in conflict with the law.

The Royal Bhutan Police will interact with the children below the age of 14 years in pre-primary and primary schools through the conduct of various interactive activities such as (a) Know Your Helpline Numbers (b) Meet the Traffic Police (c) Chit - Chat with Police (d) Say Hello to the Fireman (e) Meet the K9 (f) Take a Ride (g) Meet ‘Uncle Police’ Police Mascot, and (h) Own a Police Souvenir. The Little Police Partners will provide a positive environment for our children to understand laws, their rights, and ways to seek protection services from the police and it will also enhance the capacity of the Royal Bhutan Police to protect and promote the rights of the children and uphold the Child Care and Protection Act of Bhutan.
