POLICE TRAINING CENTRE-JIMILING
Introduction
Till 1974, the personnel of the Royal Bhutan Police has been trained by the Indian Police Training Team (IPTT). After 1975 the responsibilities for imparting training has been taken over by the Royal Bhutan Police and IPTT has performed as an Advisory role till 1997. On 4th may 1981, owing to congestion and other administrative problems, the Training Center has been officially shifted to Jigmilling.
Location
Royal Bhutan Police training centre commonly known as Jigmilling is located under Sarpang Dzongkhag (District) in the southern Bhutan. It is 18 kms east of the Sarpang Dzongkhag and 14 kms west of Gelephu Dunkhag (sub division). It has an area of 89.98 acres well secured by boundary wall.
Aim
The aim of the training centre is to produce confident, disciplined, physically and mentally robust police force.
Objectives
The main objectives of the training centre are:
  • To inculcate high sense of policing and discipline.
  • To teach basic drill on fire arm, rifle and ceremonial parade.
  • To make the recruit physically fit and mentally robust.
  • To make the recruit proficient in the handling of the weapons.
  • To teach basic Counter-Insurgency Operations and Internal Security Duties.
  • To foster the sense of responsibility, initiative, creativeness and use of common sense.
  • To create full awareness on the Laws of Bhutan such as Penal code of Bhutan, CCPC (civil and criminal procedure code) and other minor acts of the country.
  • Basic Approach to Training
    The centre endeavors to cover the contents of basic course with the core training concept of phase wise training cycle. The recruit training period is for one year which is divided into four Training cycles and is aimed at imparting training in progressive manner so that the new recruits gear up with vigor and determination to face the next stages of training confidently.
    1. First Training cycle: 3 months.
    2. Second Training cycle: 3 months.
    3. Third Training cycle: 3 months.
    4. Fourth training cycle: 3 months.
    Attestation ceremonies are conducted after successful completion of the fourth training cycle and they are sent to various divisions and police stations as per the requirements.
