Inauguration of new girls’ hostel at YDRC, Chukha
On 24th June 2016, Additional Chief of Police inaugurated the new girls’ hostel at Youth Development and Rehabilitation Centre (YDRC), Chukha. At the inaugural other dignitaries present were Dy. Chief of Police, Admn. & Finance, officials from Save the Children International and Director of NCWC, Thimphu, Lam Neten, Dasho Dzongdag & Drangpon of Chukha Dzongkhag among others.
Addl. Chief of Police in his inaugural speech highlighted the inevitable roles played by YDRC and the paramount importance of having girls hostel. The hostel was constructed at the cost of Nu. 6.5 millions out of which Nu. 4.5 were under support of Save the Children, Italy. He then specifically thanked Save the Children for this generous financial support otherwise which it would not have materialized at this point of time.
YDRC was established in June 1999 and until today it could not facilitate any rehabilitative programs to girls owing lack of infrastructure. Exactly after 17 years of its establishment, the centre is now equipped with girls’ hostel to cater for girl children coming in conflict with law.
The hostel has a dining hall, kitchen and 4 rooms having capacity of 4 beds in each with attached toilets and other basic amenities.
