Police recover Nu 3M worth of stolen properties:
Thimphu police arrested a 34 year old man from Gangtey, Wangdue on November 9 for his involvement
in three burglaries.
On November 2, a resident near the Royal Thai Consulate office in Thimphu reported to police that a safe containing jewellery and foreign currency was stolen. The incident happened between October 26 and November 2. Police found cash and valuables worth Nu 3 million (M) from the suspect’s resident after police learnt that the suspect was in possession of items similar to those reported stolen. The suspect confessed to the crime and admitted that he sold some of the stolen items to a merchant in Jaigoan, India. A gold smith, 31, in Thimphu was also apprehended for buying gold jewellery from the suspect. Police recovered a gold chain weighing about 70 grams (six tola.)
The gold smith confessed that he bought two gold bracelets for Nu 320,000 and sold to another gold smith at
Nu 350,000 in Phuentsholing where it was into a biscuit. The gold biscuit weighing 116grams (10 tola) was recovered from the gold smith in Phuentsholing. On further investigation, the prime suspect confessed of committing another two burglaries in Babesa. The suspect had stolen Nu 5M worth of items from three burglaries
but police have managed to recover items including cash worth Nu 3M.
Police learnt that the prime suspect had recently bought a Hyundai i-10 grand in cash and an i-phone 6 Plus.
The phone and vehicle have been seized. Meanwhile, a building owner in Changzamtok found a suitcase near her house, which later was identified as stolen from a resident nearby. The case was reported to police on November 18. The suitcase owner found his USD 11,000 and Euros 3,000 intact. However, the suspect is still at large since no evidence was found except for some footprints at the crime scene.
“We would like to urge people to avoid buying any items at cheap rates as it could be stolen properties,” police said.
