The Royal Bhutan Police celebrates its 50th Raising Day on 01 September 2015
The Royal Bhutan Police celebrates its 50th Raising Day on 01 September 2015 throughout the country. The Chief Guest at the ceremony, the Additional Chief of Police said that this year marks the Golden Jubilee year of the RBP and the Royal Bhutan Police dedicates the 50 years of service to the Nation as a tribute to His Majesty the Fourth King on the 60th Birthday Anniversary. He also informed the gathering that the year 2015 is a very rare moment in the history of RBP with three important events occurring in the same year:
1. His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Gyeltsuen gracing the Passing Out Parade of the 47th batch of Gagsars in Jigmelling
2. Coinciding with the 60th Birth Anniversary of His Majesty the Fourth King
3. Golden Jubilee year of RBP

Since 1965, the RBP had six Chiefs of Police and under those RBP made a tremendous progress. Out coming this far is due to their leadership and guidance. More so, in 1984, RBP was Commanded to be a part of the ARMED Forces and since then under the direct Command, the police made a very rapid progress in every aspect of manpower, infrastructure and capacity. This was possible with the blessing of our Monarchs and the continued support by the Government. The Additional Chief outlined that it was a matter of great pride, honor and of accomplishment for the RBP to successfully participate and manage the security task efficiently in two important national events i.e First ever Parliamentary Elections and the Coronation of His Majesty the King in 2008.

In his address, the Additional Chief of Police stated that over the years, due to the bad effects of modernization, police is facing challenges such as formation of gangs, indulgence in drug, rampant circulation of pornographic movies and clipping through mobile phones, sporadic reports of loss of huge amounts of money through cyber crimes in our society. However, in order to combat these challenges, the RBP came up with a strategy called community police which involves the community. Commencing from 2008 onwards, the RBP introduced the PYPP, POSYPP and FOP and it has now been institutionalized. To further strengthen the partnership with the police and its partners, the RBP also launched a web based social networking forum called Gagday Charo aimed to provide them a safe platform to connect with each other and make new friends and share ideas and opinion.

As done every year, RBP has made five pledges for the coming year. These are aimed to ensure that we do not remain complacent but make progress and create a niche for ourselves in the society:
1. Reduce crime through yearly crime reduction competition among Divisions.
2. To create a database for all criminals (criminal profile)
3. Zero tolerance on corruption
4. Zero tolerance on traffic violation
5. Securing the cultural artifacts through use of modern technology.

During the 11FYP, the RBP has made a pledge to reduce the crime to 15%. With two and half years more, statistics of 2014-15 shows that we have reduced overall crime by 26%. This was possible because of the hard work put in by both officers and men in the field and also the support and assistance provided by our partners.

In the closing speech, the Additional Chief reminded that time and again, His Majesty has reminded us about the importance of our work and has bestowed so much trust upon us to serve the Nation and the communities. Therefore, one should work tirelessly for the safety and security of the Bhutanese people and fulfill the wishes and aspiration of our beloved King and the government.

Coinciding with the celebration, the members of the Royal Bhutan Police comprising of officers and men, civilian staff and the members of RBP family offered prayers of long life and good health to our beloved Fourth King, His Majesty the Druk Gyalpo, Her Majesty the Gyeltsuen and all the members of the Royal family. The RBP also offered prayers and wishes for the peace and prosperity in the country and re-dedicated their loyalty and allegiance to the service of Tsa Wa Sum.
