Training of Police Persons on Tailoring at SABAH-Bhutan
The two months intensive training of 16 police persons on tailoring concluded on 04 February 2015. It was conducted in collaboration with SAARC Business Association of Home Based Workers (SABAH-Bhutan). During the closing program, the Chief of Police expressed gratitude to the management of SABAH-Bhutan for hosting the training, providing technical support and imparting practical hands-on tailoring training and thanked SABAH-Bhutan for contributing in the capacity building of RBP to be self sustainable in stitching the uniforms for the police persons around the country.
Very soon, the RBP will purchase and issue tailor machines to the Divisions and these 16 police persons nominated from various Divisions in the 20 Dzongkhags will report back to their stations and provide tailoring services to the police persons. In the closing program, the training instructors made a brief presentation of the nature and type of trainings undertaken and put up on display few sets of tailored uniforms stitched by the trainee-participants.
In his address, the Chief of Police outlined that the main objectives of designing such tailoring training was to meet the requirement of tailors for stitching the police uniforms by the police persons themselves as there were very few Bhutanese tailors within Bhutan. Further, it was planned after realizing that the police persons posted especially in the interior parts of the country found it difficult to stitch uniforms and had to depend on stitching them either in Phuntsholing, Gelephu, Samdrup Jongkhar and Thimphu or many times across the borders in Jaigoan, India.
The Chief of Police stated that now with the police persons being trained as tailors, these police persons will utilize their skills in stitching the two pairs of summer and one pair of winter uniforms on time on a yearly basis and it will help in bringing out better turn-out of uniforms of the police force. It is also anticipated that henceforth, the police persons can stitch the uniforms at a reduced cost lesser than the market price. As a sustainability plan, the RBP will conduct successive training to additional police persons by selecting instructors from among the first batch trained by SABAH-Bhutan.
