Bhutanese delegation at 83rd Interpol General Assembly
The opening ceremony of the 83rd Interpol General Assembly was held on 3rd November 2014 in the Grimaldi Forum of Monaco with the theme “TURN BACK CRIME”. The occasion was graced by H.R.H Prince Albert II of the Monaco.
In the opening address, His Royal Highness mentioned this occasion as historic because one hundred years ago (14 April 1914), on the initiative of Prince Albert I, the first International Criminal Police Congress took place in Monaco, bringing together police officers, judges and lawyers from 24 different nations.
Today, approximately 1350 delegates including ministers and Chiefs of Police of more than 190 member countries responsible for security matters are present in the General Assembly to review the achievements of this essential form of cooperation, the aim of which is to make the world a safer place.
By bringing together 190 countries, INTERPOL makes the technical and legal tools available which enable police officers on the ground to gain a better grasp of crime trends, to analyse information, and conduct the necessary operations.Additionally, the topic of cybercrime will be addressed, as well as the opportunities offered by the new INTERPOL Global Complex for Innovation, based in Singapore. The INTERPOL aims building a stronger police for combating evolving criminal challenges and adapting a way forward towards building the future of INTERPOL.

Representing Bhutan, three member delegation led by Thrimdag Chichhab Kipchu Namgyel, Chief of Police, the Royal Bhutan Police also attended the 83rd General Assembly.Bhutan joined the INTERPOL and became the 183rd member in September 2005.
Four day meeting which includes ministerial meeting on 04 November 2014 will end on 07 November 2014 with the election of three new members of INTERPOL's Executive Committee and the new Secretary General, who will take over from Mr. Ronald K. Noble.
