Narcotic Drug and other Vices Division
Background
The abuse of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances are gaining grounds in the Bhutanese society posing a serious concern to the Government. It has affected the society ranging from the youth to an adult of the various socio-economic backgrounds.

On 26th September 2006, as per the Royal command, the Royal Bhutan Police has established a Narcotic Drug and Law Enforcement Unit (NDLEU) for prevention and curving the drugs related issues.

Objectives:
  • To prevent and reduce Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance (NDPS) abuse and find out the root causes, illicit NDPS supply and its related crime;
  • To counter illegal supply of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances into Bhutan from other countries;
  • To sensitize and assist the parents, families, youth and communities in addressing and preventing NDPS abuse;
  • To prevent children and youth from taking NDPS and to help them become productive and healthy members of the community.
Vision: To curve the drugs related problems and build a drug free, healthy and prosperous society.
Mission: To identify the root causes of the issues related to Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances abuse in Bhutan and develop long term strategies to prevent and eradicate Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance abuse and related crimes.
