Crime and Operations Branch

Crime and operations branch is a central wing of the Royal Bhutan Police dedicated to crime related policing services ranging from the administration of justice, crime and safety management, crime prevention services. It also monitors the general policing and law enforcement services including investigations as well as crime reports from around the country. The following are the bureaus under the branch:

Crime Record
|
|
Crime Record Bureau is the crime data base of the Royal Bhutan Police. All matters relating to the data of crime and criminals is the main function of this section. This unit also closely follows on the daily crime reports from around the country and act as a central criminal report network.

Forensic Services Unit
|
|
This unit provides support to the field division in investigation and detection. The evidence and exhibits are sampled, collected, preserved, and forwarded for analysis both within and outside the country. The Crime Scene Investigation is carried out by this unit in sensational cases. The unit receives biological and serology samples and provides expert opinion. However, DNA cases including paternity disputes are referred to third countries as the planned project for DNA laboratory establishment is under implementation. Questioned documents are also received from the police stations and courts for expert analysis.

Fingerprint Unit
|
|
This unit receives and maintains the record of all fingerprints received from the other police divisions and also provides expert opinion on cases related to finger prints.

Detective Unit
|
|
Detective unit is a specialized investigating agency operating in the fields as Special Investigation Team (SIT). This unit investigates into the cases and enquiries of national importance under the directives of the Chief of Police including those cases requiring independent investigation. The Special Investigating Teams looks into cases of Chorten (Stupa) Vandalism and Antique Smuggling, Lhakhang (Monastery) Robbery & Homicide, Fraud etc.

Police Legal Unit
|
|
This Unit provides legal consultation, interpretation and advice to the investigation officers on the legal provisions. It mainly works as prosecutor of sensational cases with qualified lawyers.

Security Clearance Certificate Unit
|
|
This Unit caters services to individuals seeking police clearance certificate for processing of VISAs and Passports. The bio-data of the individuals are crosschecked with the criminal database and certifications are issued accordingly.
|
|
Fire Arms and Ammunitions Licensing Unit
|
|
This unit issues import license, renews and transfers gun licenses. It also maintains the database of all the private arms holdings of the entire country.
